About Hazel

Hazel has been making costumes and accessories for kids, school plays and theatre productions since her own children were at nursery school and found herself always needing costumes for Book Day, Fancy Dress parties and school productions. From caterpillars to the BFG, you name it Hazel has made it!

With a background in textiles, Hazel sources fabrics that are durable and hand washable, strong enough that many customers have packed their outgrown outfits away for the next generation’s enjoyment.

Whether your child has a fancy dress party to attend, needs a  book character costume  for school, a costume for the school play or a Halloween costume for Trick or Treat,  Hazel’s Costumes can assist you either from  a regular item or a custom made costume.

There is a basic wide range of popular costumes that are kept in stock for quick delivery, if out of stock we can make up garments within a short lead time or if you require a “special” costume it can also be made up in a short turnaround time.

Costumes can also be personalised with embroidered name or initials, e.g. Nurse Katie or Chef Nic.  Costumes for gifts can be packed in a gift box.  Whatever you are requiring contact Hazel and every effort will be made to accommodate your request.

Hazel’s Philosophy

Learning through play is an important part of a child’s development so encourage them not to sit behind the computer screen all the time and give their imagination a chance to also develop with creative play. And as other mothers will tell you, dressing up costumes are important additions to any toy box.

Hazel feels strongly that it is important for your child’s development to bring imagination to life with make-believe costumes;

Here are some examples of her ideas…

  • Does your child love bed time stories, especially fairy tales?  Provide them with a princess dress, crown, prince’s  cloak, witch cloak and let them re-enact various fairy tales – Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella or Rapunzel.
  • A visit to the Doctor or Vet can be impressionable for a young mind – provide a Doctor’s coat, nurse or vet outfit and let them nurse their dolls or tend to their own sick toy animals.
  • Perhaps your child is a drama queen, give her a dramatic fairy dress, mermaid outfit or bridal dress and allow her to entertain you with her creative imaginative play.
  • Is your child animal crazy? Give her a dog, cat or mouse costume and let her and her friends play or give your son a leopard or zebra costume on returning from a game reserve holiday and let him re-enact their experiences.
